If a stage provides you with none, drop a few extra points into cheaper towers. If a stage provides you with several towers, take points out of cheaper tower building, and into something more useful. In the beginning of the game, you might need to tailor you few skill points for every single stage, to squeak by. (There are exceptions to this, but it doesn't come into play until much later). Tri-color and higher receive dmg penalties. single-color and dual-color gems receive dmg boosts. Don't combine gems with more than 2 colors. This will give you some "breathing room" at the start of some of the earliest stages. Put the skill points from your first few level-ups into more starting mana. It increases the amt of mana you get from enemies by 5%, and will pay off in the long run. For stages with more waves, if you can AT ALL manage it, spend some mana to increase the size of your mana pool, at the start. A ton of level 1 gems might not break the armor. The only thing to watch out for is armored waves. Unlike nearly all TD games, Gemcraft is balanced so that having many low-level towers is better than a few super powerful towers. Eventually you learn the ins and outs and cruise through the stages (although you still have to play smart). Gemcraft is very tough until you adjust to it. Reading this beginner's tips guide is also suggested: I can probably advise you (I'm level 45 and counting).

Just like the levels, each mode has it's own personality. Different levels have very different personalities and need to be approached with different strategies. ~80 levels, and they AREN'T just cookie cutters, or filler. It's bigger and deeper than any DS game or XBLA/PSN game I've played in a long, long time.

I'm absolutely stunned at how deep and full featured the game is. Contrary to my expectations, it worked, and all it was missing was some font data (namely, Estrangelo Edessa and Finger).The game doesn't track time played, but I've EASILY spent 10 hours with it, probably more. I've also tried Swords & Souls, another game that I used to play on Armor Games. The Armor Games version is also available on Newgrounds ( ), but as you might've guessed, not everybody has access to Newgrounds (I do, but that's beside the point). The Miniclip version ( ) has no such problems, but it censors all instances of blood with a sickly green substance.
